Bank Robbery Conviction Lands Tampa Man 20-Year Prison Sentence
A brazen bank robbery in the Carrollwood neighborhood of Tampa has led to a 20-year prison sentence for John Kennedy Braun, 51, of Brandon. Braun’s co-defendant, Timothy Paul Longworth, 44, of Tampa, received a 6-year and 8-month prison sentence for his role in the crime.
On August 8, 2022, Longworth entered a bank in Carrollwood, jumped over the teller’s counter, and demanded cash while brandishing a black airsoft pistol. He left the bank with $4,172 in cash and made his way to a nearby shopping center, where Braun was waiting to pick him up. Braun’s involvement in the crime went beyond being a getaway driver, as he had previously cased other banks with Longworth, assisted in planning the escape route, and helped to hide evidence of the bank robbery.
Braun’s prior convictions include the robbery of two banks in Indiana. This latest conviction stems from an investigation led by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorney David P. Sullivan prosecuted the case.
The sentencing took place in U.S. District Court in Tampa, where Judge William F. Jung handed down the 20-year prison sentence. Braun’s co-defendant, Timothy Paul Longworth, received a significantly shorter sentence, reflecting their differing roles in the crime.
Bank robberies are a serious crime that can have devastating consequences for victims and the community at large. This conviction serves as a reminder of the importance of law enforcement’s efforts to combat violent crime.
As a result of this conviction, John Kennedy Braun will spend the next two decades behind bars, bringing a sense of closure to the victims and the community affected by this crime.
