John Killingbeck, Child Pornography, New York 2024

UTICA, NY – In a disturbing case of child exploitation, 63-year-old John Killingbeck of Utica, New York was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for his involvement in receiving and possessing child pornography.

Killingbeck’s conviction came after a jury trial in December, and he was subsequently sentenced by United States District Court Judge, Hon. David N. Hurd. The Judge handed down concurrent sentences of 20 years on each of his convictions for receiving child pornography, to be served concurrently to 10-year sentences on each of the possession charges.

The total sentence of 20 years in federal prison will be served, along with an additional 20 years of federal supervised release upon his release from prison. Killingbeck will also be required to register as a sex offender, a harsh penalty for his heinous crimes.

The investigation that led to Killingbeck’s arrest was a collaborative effort between the Oneida County Child Advocacy Center, Oneida County District Attorney’s Office, and the Utica Police Department. The case was taken on by the United States Secret Service and the United States Attorney’s Office as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to protect children from online exploitation and abuse.

Project Safe Childhood is a comprehensive effort to identify, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims. The federal prosecution of Killingbeck was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lisa Fletcher, who worked tirelessly to bring the defendant to justice.
