Kenner Man Sentenced for Conspiracy to Commit Access Device Fraud

John Paul Pierre, 29, of Kenner, has been sentenced to 9 months in prison for his role in a conspiracy to commit access device fraud. Pierre pleaded guilty to the crime in a previous hearing.

According to court documents, Pierre’s co-conspirator, Ryan Claverie, worked as a waiter at a restaurant in Metairie. Claverie used a credit card ‘skimmer’ to extract customer account information from the magnetic strip on the back of credit cards. Pierre and his co-conspirators then used this information to manufacture and produce counterfeit credit cards, which were used to obtain goods and services at several retail stores and establishments in the New Orleans area.

The counterfeit credit cards were used to fraudulently obtain items of value for the conspirators’ own personal gain. Claverie also pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit access device fraud and is awaiting sentencing.

U.S. District Judge Mary Ann Vial Lemmon handed down the sentence, which also includes 3 years of supervised release. Pierre was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $7,460.06.

Acting U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans praised the work of the United States Secret Service, New Orleans Field Office, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, the New Orleans Police Department, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the Kenner Police Department for their role in investigating the case.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Loan A. Nguyen was in charge of the prosecution. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance in protecting personal financial information.

The investigation and prosecution of Pierre and his co-conspirators demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement agencies to combating financial crimes in the New Orleans area.
