John T. Terry, Meth, Cocaine, and Gun Charges, Pennsylvania 2018

Philadelphia felon John T. Terry, 43, has been indicted on federal charges of violating narcotics and firearms laws, announced United States Attorney Scott W. Brady.

The three-count indictment, returned on October 16, 2018, alleges that on April 4, 2018, Terry possessed with the intent to distribute more than 500 grams of methamphetamine and cocaine.

Additionally, on April 4, 2018, Terry was found in possession of a loaded Smith & Wesson M&P Shield .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol, a firearm he is prohibited from possessing due to a prior conviction.

Terry’s prior conviction was for interference with interstate commerce by robbery, a crime punishable by a term of imprisonment exceeding one year, which he was convicted of on June 2, 1998, in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

Federal law prohibits individuals with such a conviction from possessing firearms, and Terry is also charged with possessing the firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

The indictment provides for a maximum sentence of life in prison and a fine of $10,500,000 or both.

Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history of the defendant.

The investigation that led to Terry’s indictment was conducted by the Laurel Highlands Resident Agency of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Pennsylvania State Police, Somerset Turnpike Barracks.
