Defendant Posts Threatening Anti-Semitic Notes Near Jewish Business
Albuquerque, New Mexico – In a disturbing display of hate, 58-year-old John W. Ng allegedly posted threatening anti-Semitic notes on and in the vicinity of the Nosh Jewish Delicatessen & Bakery, a business owned and operated by a Jewish woman in Albuquerque.
According to a criminal complaint filed by the Albuquerque Division of the FBI, Ng interfered with the victim’s federally protected rights by threatening the victim and interfering with her business because of her religion. The complaint alleges that between January 22, 2014, and February 8, 2014, Ng posted threatening anti-Semitic notes on and in the vicinity of the victim’s business.
A criminal complaint merely establishes probable cause, and Ng is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. If convicted on the offense charged in the criminal complaint, Ng faces a maximum statutory penalty of one year in prison.
The investigation into Ng’s alleged hate crime was conducted by the Albuquerque Division of the FBI, with assistance from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Mexico and the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division.
Ng is scheduled to appear in federal court on a criminal complaint charging him with a hate crime offense related to anti-Semitic threats made against a Jewish woman who owns and operates the Nosh Jewish Delicatessen & Bakery in Albuquerque.
