SCRANTON – A 38-year-old inmate at the United States Penitentiary in Canaan has been sentenced to 57 months in prison for assaulting another inmate with a dangerous weapon.
United States Attorney Bruce Brandler announced that United States District Judge Malachy Mannion handed down the sentence to Johnny Biggs on June 15, 2017, for his role in the assault on August 26, 2016.
According to court documents, Biggs fashioned a weapon from a padlock tied to a sock and used it to attack another inmate, inflicting multiple lacerations to the victim’s head, face, and back.
The dispute between the two inmates stemmed from a long-standing feud between rival sects of the Aryan Brotherhood.
Biggs was serving a 36-month sentence for a violation of supervised release and drug trafficking at the time of the assault.
The investigation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and officers at the United States Penitentiary in Canaan, with assistance from the US Attorney’s Office.
Assistant United States Attorney Sean A. Camoni prosecuted the case.
