Long Island Gang Leader Sentenced to 23 1/2 Years in Prison for Murder Conspiracy
A leader of the Nine Trey Gangster set of the Bloods street gang, Jonathan Mayzick, also known as “J-Reck,” was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for conspiring to murder rival gang members in Hempstead, New York. The 10-year sentence will be served consecutively to a 13 1/2-year federal prison term that Mayzick received in 2018 for distributing narcotics.
Mayzick, who was a leader of the Bloods, was involved in a year-long war with the rival Outlaws street gang in the “Heights” neighborhood of Hempstead. The conflict resulted in multiple shootings and the murder of a Bloods associate, Dante Quinones. Four individuals were shot by the Bloods, including one who was shot in the arm, another who was shot in the chest, and an associate of the Outlaws who was shot in the testicles.
Mayzick and his fellow Nine Trey members also operated a crack cocaine trafficking business in the Hempstead area while the gang war was ongoing. In January 2018, Mayzick was sentenced to 162 months’ imprisonment for conspiring to distribute crack cocaine.
The investigation into the Bloods and Outlaws gang war was led by the FBI’s Long Island Gang Task Force, the Nassau County Police Department’s Gang Investigations Squad, and the Firearms Section of the Suffolk County Crime Laboratory.
Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, Seth D. DuCharme, expressed his gratitude to the agencies involved in the investigation and stated that the lengthy sentence reflects the efforts to bring an end to senseless violence and loss of life and eradicate gangs like the Bloods.
The sentence, which will result in Mayzick serving a total of 23 1/2 years in prison, is a clear message that violent behavior will not be tolerated in Nassau County, stated NCPD Commissioner, Patrick J. Ryder.
