A brazen escape from the McKean Federal Correctional Institution in Bradford, Pennsylvania, has been brought to justice, with a federal inmate facing the music for his daring break.
Jonathan Rodriguez Melendez, 26, pleaded guilty and was sentenced in federal court to 1 month in jail on his conviction of escape after conviction, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
The sentence was imposed to run consecutively to the sentence Melendez is currently serving, a stern reminder that those who break the law will face the consequences.
According to the information presented to the court, on or about October 10, 2015, Melendez escaped from the Federal Prison Camp at the McKean Federal Correctional Institution while he was serving a term of imprisonment imposed by the Western District of New York upon his conviction for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and to distribute heroin.
Assistant United States Attorney Christian A. Trabold prosecuted this case on behalf of the government, ensuring that justice was served.
U.S. Attorney Hickton commended Officers of the McKean Federal Correctional Institution for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Melendez, praising their tireless efforts in bringing the perpetrator to book.
The case serves as a reminder that the justice system will not tolerate those who seek to evade their sentences, and that those who break the law will face the full force of the law.
