Michael Lindsey Jones, Methamphetamine Distribution, North Carolina 2024

Today, a gritty courtroom in Asheville, N.C., handed down a decisive blow against methamphetamine trafficking with the sentencing of Michael Lindsey Jones, 39, to 10 years in federal prison. The Hendersonville resident was also ordered to serve five years of supervised release following his prison term for his role in a methamphetamine distribution ring.

Jones’s supplier, Zachery Micah Rice, had been sentenced previously to more than 28 years for his part in the drug trade, which included trafficking fentanyl and meth. From 2021 to 2023, Jones conspired with Rice to distribute significant quantities of meth throughout Buncombe, Henderson, and Transylvania Counties.

The investigation revealed that Jones was deeply involved in arranging drug deals, setting meeting times and locations, and handling the cash exchanges. Between February and April 2023 alone, he distributed nearly 1.3 kilograms of the deadly substance.

Jones pleaded guilty on December 30, 2024, to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and aiding and abetting its distribution. His arrest came after a sting operation where law enforcement used a confidential informant to purchase pound quantities of meth from Rice, with Jones coordinating the deal.

U.S. Attorney Russ Ferguson announced the sentence, thanking numerous local and federal agencies for their relentless pursuit of justice in this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher S. Hess handled the prosecution on behalf of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Asheville.

This case is a significant victory for Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at eradicating cartels, transnational criminal organizations, and protecting communities from violent crime. Jones remains in custody pending placement by the federal Bureau of Prisons.
