Carjacking Suspect Sentenced to 114 Months

A 21-year-old St. Louis woman has been sentenced to 114 months in federal prison for an armed carjacking incident in the city.

Jonniece Wilson, 21, of St. Louis, was sentenced on Friday by U.S. District Judge Stephen R. Clark for her role in the carjacking, which occurred on the evening of March 12, 2024, in the 3400 block of Grace Avenue.

According to court documents, Wilson pointed a firearm at the driver of a Hyundai Accent and demanded the keys to the car. She then got in and drove away, leading police on a wild chase through the streets of St. Louis.

Police officers spotted the car about 30 minutes later and attempted to pull it over, but the vehicle sped up instead. The driver weaved through traffic and red lights before crashing into a light pole and striking a pedestrian. Wilson was arrested after fleeing on foot with a backpack containing a handgun.

Wilson pleaded guilty in October to one count of carjacking and one count of brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence. She was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Szczucinski.

The investigation into the case was a collaborative effort between the St. Louis Metropolitan Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Wilson’s sentence is a significant blow to the community, and a reminder that carjacking is a serious crime with serious consequences. As a society, we must take a hard stance against such crimes and hold those responsible accountable.
