A Kansas City man has been accused of putting the lives of police officers at risk by shining a laser pointer at a helicopter in the sky.
Jordon Clarence Rogers, 24, of Kansas City, Mo., was charged with aiming his laser pointer at a Kansas City, Mo., Police Department helicopter on October 8, 2013, according to a federal indictment.
The indictment alleges that Rogers, a Kansas City man, aimed the beam of a laser pointer at the helicopter, putting the lives of the officers on board in jeopardy.
Dickinson cautioned that the charge contained in this indictment is simply an accusation, and not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting the charge must be presented to a federal trial jury, whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian P. Casey. It was investigated by the FBI.
The indictment states that Rogers, charged with aiming a laser pointer at a Kansas City, Mo., Police Department helicopter on October 8, 2013, could face severe consequences if convicted.
Rogers’ case highlights the dangers of laser strikes and the importance of holding those responsible accountable for their actions.
The case is ongoing, and it is unclear what the outcome will be. However, one thing is certain: the safety of police officers is of the utmost importance, and those who put their lives at risk will be held accountable.
