Grimy Times has learned that Jorge Aguilar-Perez, a 25-year-old Guatemalan national, has been sentenced to six months in prison for illegally re-entering the United States.
The sentencing occurred in New Orleans, Louisiana, after Aguilar-Perez pleaded guilty to a one-count Bill of Information for violating Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a), which prohibits illegal re-entry into the country.
According to court documents, Aguilar-Perez was previously removed from the United States on May 25, 2006, but was found in the country again on or about December 20, 2018.
The case was investigated by the United States Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and Assistant United States Attorney Irene González is in charge of the prosecution.
Aguilar-Perez was also ordered to pay a $100.00 special assessment as part of his sentence.
U.S. Attorney Peter G. Strasser praised the work of the investigators and prosecutors in securing the conviction.
