Jorge Correa, Armed Robbery, Kansas 2020

WICHITA, KAN. – A convenience store in Newton was the target of an armed robbery on February 4, 2020, with the perpetrators using military-style rifles and demanding cash from the clerk. Jorge Correa, along with two co-defendants, entered the EZ Trip store at 100 S. Main in Newton, both armed and looking to get their hands on some cash.

While the clerk was getting money from her purse, Correa fired several shots that hit the ceiling, aisle displays, and an ATM machine. The clerk gave them the cash they demanded, but Correa’s actions were reckless and put the lives of everyone in the store at risk.

Correa, 25, of Wichita, Kansas, pleaded guilty to one count of robbery. In his plea, Correa admitted to the armed robbery and acknowledged his role in the crime. His co-defendants, Rico Montes and Jeremiah Urias, are set to change their pleas in the coming weeks.

The FBI, Kansas Highway Patrol, Newton Police Department, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Alan Metzger worked together to bring Correa to justice. Their hard work and dedication to solving the case are a testament to their commitment to keeping our communities safe.

Correa is set to be sentenced on December 8, with a possible penalty of up to 20 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Until then, he remains in custody, awaiting his fate.

The case serves as a reminder that armed robbery is a serious crime that can have devastating consequences for all parties involved. We must continue to work together to prevent such crimes and bring perpetrators to justice.

In all cases, defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The indictment merely contains allegations of criminal conduct.
