Orlando Man Arrested for Possessing Child Pornography
An Orlando man is facing serious charges after being accused of possessing child pornography, a crime that carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison.
Jorge Guerrero-Torres, 28, was arrested and charged with possessing child pornography according to a complaint filed by United States Attorney A. Lee Bentley, III.
Guerrero-Torres was arrested on June 6, 2016, in Fort Myers, Florida, after a search warrant was obtained for his cellphone. A forensic examination of the device revealed multiple images of child pornography.
The arrest was made as part of an investigation into the disappearance of a child. Guerrero-Torres had resided at the home where the child was last seen and had recently moved out.
Guerrero-Torres made his initial appearance in federal court on June 6, 2016, and remains detained pending further proceedings. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 20, 2016, at 1:30 p.m., before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mac R. McCoy.
A criminal complaint is merely an allegation that a defendant has committed one or more violations of federal criminal law, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until, proven guilty.
This case was investigated by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. It will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jesus M. Casas.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
