Pennsylvania Man Sentenced for Illegal Re-Entry
In a move to crack down on immigration violations, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced two sentencings involving illegal aliens in U.S. District Court in Scranton.
Judge Richard P. Conaboy sentenced 48-year-old Jose Efrain Martinez-Aguilar, a native and citizen of Honduras, to a term of imprisonment for 27 months followed by immediate deportation on December 2, 2014.
Martinez-Aguilar, also known as Carlos Oreana Benitez, was previously indicted and charged with illegal reentry into the United States after having been previously deported and after having been convicted of an aggravated felony involving the trafficking of controlled substances.
The investigation was conducted by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). Assistant United States Attorney Michelle Olshefski prosecuted the case.
Martinez-Aguilar’s sentencing is a significant blow to the growing problem of immigration violations in the United States. The case highlights the consequences of breaking the law and underscores the need for stricter immigration policies.
The same judge, Richard P. Conaboy, also sentenced 30-year-old Juan Domingo Tellar-Mendoza, a native and citizen of Nicaragua, to a term of imprisonment of time served, approximately 6 months, and immediate deportation on December 4, 2014.
Tellar-Mendoza was previously indicted and charged with illegal reentry into the United States after having been previously deported. The investigation was also conducted by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Michelle Olshefski.
