Jose Mauricio Lopez, Cocaine and Heroin Conspiracy, Alabama 2014

A 46-year-old Texas man has been sentenced to seven years and two months in prison for his role in a cocaine and heroin trafficking operation that passed through Alabama.

Jose Mauricio Lopez, of Houston, Texas, was stopped by a Baldwin County sheriff’s deputy on Interstate 10 in April 2014 for following too closely. During a search of his vehicle, authorities discovered 12.9 kilograms of cocaine and 2.4 kilograms of heroin hidden in the fuel tank.

Lopez was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was subsequently charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine and heroin.

According to court documents, Lopez entered a guilty plea to the charges in April 2014 and was sentenced on [no date provided] by United States District Court Judge Callie V. S. Granade.

In addition to the prison sentence, Lopez was also ordered to serve a three-year term of supervised release, which will begin once he is discharged from prison. Lopez was also ordered to pay $100 in special mandatory assessments.
