A Mexican National, Jose Salazar, 35, of Portland, Oregon, pleaded guilty today for conspiring to distribute and distributing narcotics in and around Portland after being extradited from Canada.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon, Jose Salazar was charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute and distribute narcotics, specifically methamphetamine and cocaine, in violation of Title 21, United States Code, Sections 846 and 841(a)(1).

The investigation into Jose Salazar‘s activities was a joint effort between the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations, and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

As part of his plea agreement, Jose Salazar will forfeit all of his assets, including a $250,000 residence in Portland, which was seized as part of the investigation.

Jose Salazar will be sentenced on June 15, 2024, at which time he faces a maximum of 20 years in prison, a fine of up to $1,000,000, and a period of supervised release of at least 3 years.

In a statement, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon said, “The extradition and prosecution of Jose Salazar demonstrate the commitment of the U.S. Department of Justice to hold accountable those who traffic in narcotics and engage in organized crime activities.”

The case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon, with the assistance of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Organized Crime and Gang Section.
