Jose Sanchez-Moradel, a 35-year-old Honduran national, has been charged with a serious crime in the state of Louisiana.
According to the indictment, Sanchez-Moradel was found in possession of a 22 caliber Glock Model G44 handgun on or about April 26, 2023. This is a clear violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 922(g)(5)(A), which prohibits illegal aliens from possessing firearms.
The indictment alleges that Sanchez-Moradel was an alien illegally present in the United States at the time of the offense, making him a prime target for prosecution.
Sanchez-Moradel faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 15 years, a fine of up to $250,000, up to three years of supervised release, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.00.
U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans emphasized that an indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
Evans praised the work of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency in investigating this matter, crediting them with bringing Sanchez-Moradel to justice.
Assistant United States Attorney Carter K.D. Guice, Jr. of the General Crimes Unit is handling the prosecution of Sanchez-Moradel.
This case is a stark reminder of the dangers of illegal alien crime in our communities. We will continue to work tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice.
