Joseph Allen Davis Pleads Guilty to Being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm
A 19-year-old man from Sacramento has pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to U.S. Attorney Eric Grant. Joseph Allen Davis, 19, of Sacramento, pleaded guilty to the charge on [date].
The investigation into Davis began after police determined that he was one of the shooters at a picnic at Rainbow City Park in Davis on April 12, 2025. The shooting left three people injured by gunfire.
Law enforcement officers conducted a search of Davis’s apartment and seized a short-barrel AR-15-style pistol that was loaded with 23 rounds of ammunition. Davis is prohibited from possessing any firearms and ammunition because he was previously convicted of a felony gun possession offense.
The case is the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with assistance from the Davis Police Department, the Sacramento Police Department, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, the Yolo County District Attorney’s Office, and the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Lee is prosecuting the case.
Davis is scheduled to be sentenced by Chief U.S. District Judge Troy L. Nunley on March 26, 2026. He faces a maximum statutory penalty of 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The actual sentence, however, will be determined at the discretion of the court after consideration of any applicable statutory factors and the federal Sentencing Guidelines.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program that brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence. The program was launched by the U.S. government on May 26, 2021, with the goal of making neighborhoods safer for everyone.
