Joshua Bogen, 32, was sentenced on August 23, 2023, to 252 months imprisonment, 5 years of supervised release, and a $400 mandatory special assessment fee, announced U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans.

According to court documents, Bogen, a convicted felon, was transporting approximately two pounds of crystal methamphetamine from Houma, Louisiana to a residence in New Orleans to conduct a drug deal on October 18, 2021. When DEA agents arrived at the scene, Bogen brandished his handgun and pointed it directly at one of the agents. Agents then moved to take cover, and one shot was fired in Bogen’s direction.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities. The program was launched on May 26, 2021, with the goal of fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, supporting community-based organizations, and setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities.

The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the prosecution was handled by Assistant United States Attorney J. Benjamin Myers of the Narcotics Unit.
