New Orleans Man Pleads Guilty to Drug Violations

Kendall Theard, a 26-year-old resident of Orleans Parish, pleaded guilty to one count of a four-count indictment for drug violations on May 17, 2023.

Theard is charged with possession with the intent to distribute a controlled substance, including marijuana and cocaine, in violation of Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1) and (b)(1)(D) and (C), respectively.

According to the indictment, Theard faces a maximum sentence of 5 years of imprisonment, a fine of up to $250,000, a period of at least 2 years of supervised release, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100 for the marijuana charge. He also faces a maximum sentence of 20 years of imprisonment, a fine of up to $1,000,000, a period of at least 3 years of supervised release, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100 for the cocaine charge.

The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities. U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans praised the work of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the New Orleans Police Department in bringing Theard to justice.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Inga Petrovich of the Violent Crime Unit. Theard’s sentencing is set for September 6, 2023.

U.S. Attorney Evans expressed his commitment to reducing violent crime and gun violence in New Orleans, saying, “This case is a prime example of our efforts to hold individuals accountable for their actions and make our communities safer.”

Theard’s guilty plea marks a significant step in the fight against drug trafficking in Louisiana. As the investigation continues, authorities remain vigilant in their pursuit of justice and public safety.
