Huntington Man Sentenced to Federal Prison for Drug Crime
A 29-year-old man from Huntington, West Virginia, has been sentenced to 63 months in federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation. Joshua David Ramey, 29, previously pled guilty to a single count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
According to the investigation, Ramey was stopped by a deputy with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department on March 13, 2018, after his car broke down on Interstate 64. The deputy detected the odor of marijuana and searched the vehicle, at which time the deputy located in the trunk four clear plastic baggies of methamphetamine. The plastic baggies contained a combined weight of approximately 471 grams of methamphetamine, which carries a street value close to $36,000.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Department conducted the investigation. United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers imposed the sentence. Assistant United States Attorneys Ryan A. Keefe and Monica D. Coleman handled the prosecution.
Ramey’s arrest and subsequent conviction serve as a reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat the illegal trafficking of methamphetamine in the state of West Virginia. The sentence handed down by Judge Chambers reflects the severity of the crime and the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions.
The case is a testament to the hard work and dedication of law enforcement agencies in the region, who continue to work tirelessly to keep communities safe and prevent the distribution of illicit substances.
Ramey will serve his 63-month sentence at a federal prison. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia will continue to work to hold individuals accountable for their role in the illegal trafficking of methamphetamine.
