A 38-year-old man from Elkins, West Virginia has been sentenced for his role in a firearms charge. Joshua Derek Raines was found guilty of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug crime.
The crime, which occurred in August 2019, involved Raines possessing a .40 caliber pistol during a drug trafficking crime.
The Mountain Region Drug & Violent Crimes Task Force investigated the case and Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen D. Warner prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.
U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh presided over the sentencing hearing.
Raines, who pleaded guilty to the charge in July 2021, was sentenced to 60 months of incarceration. This sentence is a result of his admission to having a .40 caliber pistol during the drug trafficking crime.
The sentencing occurred on an unknown date, but it is understood that it took place in the United States District Court for the Northern District of West Virginia.
Raines’ case serves as a reminder of the severe consequences of committing crimes involving firearms and drugs. The investigation and prosecution of such cases are crucial in keeping communities safe.
