ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico – A violent knife assault outside a local grocery store in Shiprock, New Mexico, has led to a guilty plea.
On November 12, 2024, Josiah Bodie, 23, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, assaulted John Doe with a knife outside Basha’s Grocery Store in Shiprock. As a result of the assault, John Doe suffered serious bodily injury.
According to court records, Bodie pleaded guilty to assault resulting in serious injury. At sentencing, Bodie faces a maximum of 10 years in prison. Upon his release from prison, Bodie will be subject to up to five years of supervised release.
The crime occurred in the Farmington area, approximately 20 miles from Shiprock. The Farmington Resident Agency of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office investigated this case with the assistance of the Navajo Nation Police Department and the Navajo Nation Department of Criminal Investigations.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Caitlin L. Dillon is prosecuting the case. U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Philip Russell, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office, made the announcement today.
