Josue Joel Castaneda-Cuyuch, Illegal Reentry, New York 2023

BUFFALO, NY – In a somber turn of events, Josue Joel Castaneda-Cuyuch, a 31-year-old citizen of Guatemala, was sentenced to time served for his role in illegal reentry, a crime that has left many in the community shaken.

Castaneda-Cuyuch, who was previously deported and removed from the United States on August 20, 2010, was found in the country without the necessary consent of the Attorney General of the United States on September 11, 2014.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Marie P. Grisanti, who handled the case, stated that the defendant’s actions were a clear violation of U.S. law, and that justice had been served.

The sentencing is the result of a thorough investigation by the United States Border Patrol, under the direction of Steven J. Oldman, Patrol Agent in Charge.

Castaneda-Cuyuch was sentenced to seven months in prison, a term he had already served. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara.

U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul Jr. announced the sentence, and praised the efforts of the U.S. Border Patrol for their work in bringing Castaneda-Cuyuch to justice.
