A Rapid City man has been sentenced to federal prison for his role in a cocaine distribution ring and firearm possession charges.
Jquann Jackson, 28, was sentenced to four years in federal prison on each of the two charges by Judge Jeffrey L. Viken on May 20, 2022. The sentences will run concurrently, followed by three years of supervised release, and he was ordered to pay a $200 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The charges stemmed from Jackson’s distribution of cocaine in Rapid City between January and July 2021. Law enforcement discovered Jackson, a previously convicted felon who is prohibited from possessing firearms, to be in possession of a Mossberg International Incorporated, model 715T, .22 Long Rifle caliber, semi-automatic rifle, and a Sarsilmaz Arms, (SAR), model SAR9, 9x19mm Luger caliber, semi-automatic pistol during the execution of a search warrant at his residence in July 2021.
Jackson was indicted by a federal grand jury on July 22, 2021, and pleaded guilty on January 28, 2022. The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Rapid City Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Patterson prosecuted the case.
As part of the Department’s violent crime reduction efforts, this case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an evidence-based program proven to be effective at reducing violent crime. Through PSN, a broad spectrum of stakeholders work together to identify the most pressing violent crime problems in the community and develop comprehensive solutions to address them.
Jackson was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
