A high-ranking member of a large-scale methamphetamine trafficking ring has been sentenced to 27 years in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
According to court documents, Frank Stewart, 62, was involved in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine in the District of South Dakota and elsewhere. During his involvement, he obtained methamphetamine from a co-conspirator and sold it to other co-conspirators. He personally distributed more than 500 grams of methamphetamine during his involvement in the conspiracy.
The case against Stewart began in the summer of 2019, when he joined an agreement or understanding to distribute methamphetamine. His involvement in the conspiracy continued until he was indicted by a federal grand jury on April 6, 2021.
Stewart pled guilty to the charges against him on December 7, 2021, and was sentenced on June 6, 2022, by U.S. District Judge Charles B. Kornmann. The sentence was handed down after a thorough investigation by the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Hodges prosecuted the case, bringing the charges against Stewart to fruition. Stewart was immediately taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service after the sentencing.
