
Rapid City duo Michael Gallas, 56, and his daughter Charissa Gallas, 31, have been caught in a major methamphetamine conspiracy in Rapid City, South Dakota.
According to court documents, the father-daughter duo conspired with others to distribute methamphetamine in the District of South Dakota, starting as early as December 2013.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced that both Michael and Charissa Gallas were indicted on August 26, 2014, and they appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Veronica L. Duffy on September 12, 2014, and September 16, 2014, respectively. Both pleaded not guilty to the indictment.
The maximum penalty upon conviction is up to 20 years in custody and/or a $1,000,000 fine, 3 years of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Ted L. McBride is prosecuting the case, and the investigation is being conducted by the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation. Michael Gallas was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending trial, while Charissa Gallas was released on bond pending trial.
A trial date has been set for November 18, 2014. The charge is merely an accusation, and both Michael and Charissa Gallas are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The case serves as a reminder of the ongoing battle against methamphetamine distribution in South Dakota and the importance of community vigilance in preventing such crimes.
