Juan Martinez-Garcia, Illicit Re-entry, New York 2023

ALBANY, NEW YORK – Two Mexican citizens were sentenced for illegally re-entering the United States, authorities announced today.

Juan Martinez-Garcia, 27, of Mexico, was sentenced to time served (38 days in jail) for his role in the crime.

Jorge Reyes-Merino, 27, of Mexico, was also sentenced to time served (38 days in jail) for his part in the illicit re-entry.

The men were arrested on May 30, 2017, in Saratoga Springs, New York, by ICE Officers as part of the Buffalo Field Office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO).

According to court documents, Martinez-Garcia admitted that he is a citizen of Mexico, and that he illegally returned to the United States after he was removed from the United States to Mexico on July 26, 2010.

Similarly, Reyes-Merino admitted that he is a citizen of Mexico, and that he illegally returned to the United States after he was removed from the United States to Mexico on November 9, 2011.

Following their respective sentencings, Martinez-Garcia and Reyes-Merino were each placed into the custody of the Department of Homeland Security, for removal proceedings.

The cases were investigated by ICE-ERO and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Edward P. Grogan.
