A Trinitarios gang member brutally stabbed a fellow inmate in a Brooklyn detention center in a twisted bid for witness retaliation, a jury convicted him today.
Brian Hernandez, 26, was convicted of three counts of assault after a four-day trial in federal court. Hernandez, aka Malaki, allegedly coordinated the attack with other Trinitarios members at the Metropolitan Detention Center on December 3, 2023.
The victim was slashed and stabbed multiple times, including above the eye, leaving a deep gash and substantial bleeding. Prosecutors say Hernandez and his cohorts targeted the victim because they believed he was cooperating with authorities.
Hernandez faces up to 50 years in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced on July 28, 2026.
