Eight MS-13 gang members were sentenced to decades in prison for their roles in a racketeering conspiracy that included witness tampering and multiple murders. The brutal killings, which spanned from 2017 to 2018, targeted victims as young as 14 in the Houston area.
The main players were high-ranking MS-13 leaders Edgardo Martinez-Rodriguez, aka Largo, and Wilman Rivas-Guido, aka Inquieto. Martinez-Rodriguez initiated numerous murders, and the gang used machetes, baseball bats, and their bare hands to carry out the killings.
U.S. District Judge Jeffrey V. Brown handed down the sentences, noting the violent nature of the crimes. The defendants pleaded guilty to being part of a MS-13 enterprise responsible for murders, extortion, drug trafficking, robbery, and obstruction of justice in and around Houston.
The sentences sent a clear message: those who carry out violence for transnational criminal organizations will be held accountable, no matter where the orders come from. The Southern District of Texas will continue working to dismantle violent gangs that threaten their community.
