US border enforcement agencies charged 354 people in Texas with crimes ranging from human smuggling to narcotics offenses. The sweep, part of Operation Take Back America, targeted individuals with prior felony convictions and those who had been previously removed from the country.
Among those charged were 114 individuals accused of entering the US illegally, with 212 facing allegations of felony reentry after prior removal. The remaining 28 cases involved human smuggling and other immigration-related crimes.
Prosecutors detailed the cases of four men who allegedly reentered the US after being previously removed: Omar Alejandro Valdez-Ornelas, Jose Antonio Romero-Uribe, Javier Alegria-Ortega, and William Alexander Morataya. If convicted, each could face up to 20 years in federal prison.
In a separate case, Carlos Alberto Garcia-Guajardo, a Mexican national, received a 495-month sentence for distributing narcotics and machine guns from his South Texas residence. Authorities found evidence of his ‘gangster’ lifestyle, including a Scarface poster in his bedroom.
