⏱ 2 min read

A Guatemalan national is behind bars after being sentenced to six months in prison for sneaking back into the United States after being deported.

Carlos Egberto Jimenez-Tun, 28, was first deported in July 2019 after being caught by US Border Patrol in Texas as part of a smuggling investigation. But he managed to slip back in, getting arrested multiple times in Connecticut for crimes including larceny, resisting arrest, and violating probation.

Jimenez-Tun was finally arrested by ICE agents in January 2026, after being released from state custody. He pleaded guilty to reentering the country illegally and was sentenced by US District Judge Sarala V. Nagala in Hartford.

The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at cracking down on cartels, transnational criminal organizations, and violent crime.
