Defendant Charged with Sex and Labor Trafficking in Oklahoma
Tulsa, OK – A shocking case of human trafficking has come to light in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with two Cuban nationals accused of forcing a local exotic dancer into commercial sex work.
Oscar Alejandro Laborde, 24, and his wife, Yenney Muir Naranjo, 24, are charged with Conspiracy to Commit Sex Trafficking; Sex Trafficking; Conspiracy to Commit Forced Labor; Forced Labor; and Interstate Travel to Aid Racketeering. Laborde is also accused of Document Servitude.
According to court records, law enforcement received a tip from a concerned citizen in July about a local exotic dancer who may be a victim of human trafficking. When investigators met with the victim, she revealed that Laborde had promised her an opportunity to work in the United States in exchange for a $50,000 fee.
Once in the United States, Laborde allegedly took the victim’s Cuban passport and birth certificate, forcing her to live with him and his wife until her ‘debt’ was paid in full. The victim was charged for rent and food, and was required to give her earnings to Laborde and Muir to work off her ‘debt’. She was also forced to engage in commercial sex acts and was allegedly assaulted by Muir while Laborde watched.
Court documents show that the victim was required to cook and clean the house, but was not paid for her labor. This disturbing case highlights the need for continued awareness and action against human trafficking.
The case is being investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the Tulsa Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jessica Wright and John Brasher prosecuting the case.
A criminal complaint and indictment are merely allegations, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
