The 20-year cold case of the execution-style killing of Run-DMC’s Jam Master Jay has finally seen some justice. Jay Bryant, who used at least six aliases, pleaded guilty in federal court in Brooklyn to his role in the October 30, 2002, murder of the hip-hop legend.
According to court documents, Bryant was the one who helped the killers gain access to Jam Master Jay, setting the stage for the brutal murder. The plea agreement carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison and up to 20 years.
The investigation into Jam Master Jay’s murder was a long and complex one, involving multiple law enforcement agencies and jurisdictions. The NYPD Intelligence Division, Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, Queens County District Attorney’s Office, Columbia Borough Police Department in Pennsylvania, and the Dominican Republic National Police all contributed to the case.
US Attorney Joseph Nocella praised the dedication and perseverance of the investigators, saying, ‘We never give up, no matter how long it takes, in the pursuit of justice for the victim and the victim’s family.’
