Juan Morales, Conspiracy to Distribute Fentanyl, Arkansas 2024

A massive fentanyl trafficking operation has been busted in Salt Lake City, Utah, with five alleged traffickers facing serious charges.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, a federal grand jury in Salt Lake City returned multiple indictments against four illegal aliens from Mexico and one U.S. citizen for alleged drug trafficking in four separate cases.

The indictment names Juan Morales, 32, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, as one of the alleged leaders of the operation. Morales is accused of conspiracy to distribute fentanyl, a charge that carries a minimum of 10 years in prison.

The indictment also names Maria Rodriguez, 28, of Springdale, Arkansas; Jorge Hernandez, 35, of Rogers, Arkansas; Sofia Garcia, 25, of Fayetteville, Arkansas; and David Lee, 41, of Salt Lake City, Utah. All four are accused of various charges related to fentanyl trafficking.

The indictment states that agents seized approximately 23,759.17 grams of narcotics, or approximately 52.38 pounds, during a two-day period last month. The exact amount of fentanyl seized was not specified in the indictment.

The indictment was returned on March 20, 2024. It is unclear when the defendants will be brought to trial or if they have entered a plea. The case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arkansas and the Department of Homeland Security.
