Nathaniel Walker, a 33-year-old man from Miami, Florida, has been convicted of oxycodone trafficking in federal court in West Virginia. The conviction comes after Walker was discovered in possession of oxycodone in Monongalia County.
According to court documents, Walker pled guilty to a single count of ‘Possession with Intent to Distribute Oxycodone.’ This conviction carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $1,000,000.
The actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and Walker’s prior criminal history, if any. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the court will take into account these factors when determining the final sentence.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Zelda Wesley prosecuted the case on behalf of the government, while the West Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation led the inquiry.
U.S. Magistrate Judge John S. Kaull presided over the case, overseeing the proceedings and ensuring a fair trial.
This conviction highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat the illicit trade of prescription medications. As the nation continues to grapple with the opioid epidemic, cases like Walker’s serve as a reminder of the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions.
