Julio Jimenez Garcia, a 42-year-old El Salvadorian man with a history of sexually assaulting a child, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for breaking U.S. immigration law by reentering the country after being deported in 2008.
Jimenez Garcia was initially deported at taxpayer expense in October 2008, but he managed to sneak back into the United States just a month later, in November 2008. He remained at large until 2017, when he was arrested by state police for sexually assaulting a five-year-old child on over 40 separate occasions.
In April 2018, Jimenez Garcia pleaded guilty to the crime of indecent liberties with a child under the age of 15 and was sentenced to prison. Then, in January 2019, he pleaded guilty to the charge of illegal reentry.
U.S. Attorney G. Zachary Terwilliger and Lyle A. Boelens, Acting Field Office Director for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations, made the announcement after Jimenez Garcia’s sentencing by U.S. District Judge Liam O’Grady.
Special Assistant U.S. Attorneys La’Nese Clarke and Brianna Edgar prosecuted the case. According to court documents, Jimenez Garcia’s actions demonstrate a blatant disregard for U.S. law and a callous indifference to the safety and well-being of American children.
The sentencing of Julio Jimenez Garcia serves as a stark reminder of the consequences that await those who break our nation’s immigration laws and pose a threat to public safety.
