New York Urologist Charged with Sex Abuse of Minors
A high-profile case of sex abuse has rocked the medical community in New York. Darius A. Paduch, a 55-year-old urologist from North Bergen, New Jersey, has been charged with inducing minors to travel for unlawful sexual activity.
According to the indictment, Paduch abused multiple male patients, including minors, during purported urological examinations at two prestigious medical institutions in New York. The alleged abuse occurred between 2015 and 2019.
The indictment details how Paduch used his position as a urologist to make his victims believe the abuse was medically necessary. He would often direct them to schedule follow-up visits and send them inappropriate messages after appointments.
Paduch is charged with two counts of inducing victims to travel for unlawful sexual activity, each carrying a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
The case was unsealed in Manhattan federal court, and Paduch was arrested this morning. He will be presented before U.S. Magistrate Judge Sarah L. Cave this afternoon.
The FBI is urging anyone who may have been victimized by Paduch to come forward. Tips can be submitted to 1-800-CALL-FBI or online at tips.fbi.gov.
The case is assigned to U.S. District Judge Ronnie Abrams.
The indictment highlights the devastating impact of sex abuse on its victims. As U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said, ‘Darius Paduch abused the trust of patients, including minors, who saw him for sensitive medical problems. His abuse ends today.’
The alleged abuse has sent shockwaves through the medical community, raising questions about the vetting process for medical professionals and the need for greater transparency.
