Shaun Morant, Producing and Receiving Child Pornography, New York 2022

A Schenectady man has been charged with producing and receiving child pornography, according to a recent indictment. Shaun Morant, age 27, was indicted Tuesday for his alleged role in creating and obtaining illicit images involving a 10-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy.

The indictment alleges that in January 2022, Morant produced child pornography involving the 10-year-old girl, and that between January 2020 and April 2022, he received child pornography involving the 10-year-old boy. The charges in the indictment are merely accusations, and Morant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

On the producing child pornography count, Morant faces at least 15 years and up to 30 years in prison, if convicted. On the receipt counts, Morant faces at least 5 years and up to 20 years in prison, if convicted.

The case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Rick Belliss prosecuting as part of Project Safe Childhood. Launched in May 2006, Project Safe Childhood is a federal initiative aimed at combating child exploitation and identifying victims.
