A 42-year-old sex offender, Victor Lara-Lopez, is behind bars for a violent crime that could’ve been a lot worse. In the early morning hours of June 13, 2025, ICE officers tried to arrest Lara-Lopez, who was driving a vehicle near his Pasco home. But instead of cooperating, he put the pedal to the metal, reversing and then driving forward onto the sidewalk, hitting an ICE vehicle so hard it ripped off the front bumper.
Lara-Lopez, a Mexican national with a history of molesting a 12-year-old child, refused to turn off the engine or identify himself. Two ICE officers had to jump off the running board to avoid being crushed. Lara-Lopez was eventually arrested and charged with assaulting federal law enforcement officers.
On April 16, 2026, District Court Judge Mary K. Dimke sentenced Lara-Lopez to 24 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.
