Cedar Rapids, Iowa – Julius Marvell Sullivan, age 28, was handed down a six month sentence by United States District Court Judge C.J. Williams for his part in escaping a halfway house.
Sullivan was previously convicted in April 2019 of distributing a controlled substance within a protected location, an offense that earned him thirty months in prison. In a plea agreement, Sullivan admitted that the Bureau of Prisons transferred him to a halfway house in June 2020 to serve out the remainder of his sentence.
However, on October 7, 2020, Sullivan signed out of the halfway house, but failed to return as required. It wasn’t until October 28, 2020, when the United States Marshals Service arrested Sullivan inside a beauty shop.
Assistant United States Attorney Kyndra Lundquist led the prosecution against Sullivan. The United States Marshals’ Service conducted the investigation.
Sullivan will serve six months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. He is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
The case number is 20-CR-85 and can be found on the federal court’s website at https://ecf.iand.uscourts.gov/cgi-bin/login.pl.
