Julius Pearson, 26, from Madison County, pleaded guilty to bribery before Senior U.S. District Judge William H. Barbour on August 15, 2017. Pearson was employed as a corrections officer at the Federal Prison in Yazoo County.
The investigation revealed that Pearson began smuggling tobacco into the prison in approximately August 2016. He was paid approximately $10,000 by inmates and others for delivering the tobacco to inmates inside the facility.
Pearson will be sentenced on August 15, 2017, and faces a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Criminal Chief Patrick Lemon and was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Office of Inspector General.
As a result of his guilty plea, Pearson will face the consequences of his actions and serve time for his crime.
The people of Mississippi can be assured that those who break the law will be held accountable and face justice.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Office of Inspector General worked tirelessly to bring this case to a successful conclusion.
Pearson’s actions were a betrayal of the public’s trust and undermine the integrity of the justice system.
