ATLANTA – In a stunning verdict, Ramiro Contreras-Sandoval, 41, an illegal alien from Michoacan, Mexico, has been convicted following a five-day federal trial. The jury found him guilty of distributing over 135 kilograms of liquid methamphetamine and unlawfully possessing a .50 caliber rifle, all in furtherance of his drug trafficking crimes.
‘Without any regard for community safety,’ U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg declared, ‘Contreras-Sandoval operated two methamphetamine conversion labs in homes around Atlanta. He also used a Bushmaster .50 caliber rifle to protect his operation.’
The DEA and local law enforcement partners were relentless in their pursuit of the drug kingpin. The result was the seizure of over $84,000 in drug proceeds, as well as the methamphetamine, weapons, and nearly $100,000 in cash.
U.S. Attorney Hertzberg detailed the charges: Between March 2019 and October 2021, Contreras-Sandoval and Genaro Davalos-Pulido ran two clandestine labs. On April 23, 2019, DEA agents seized over 135 kilograms of methamphetamine in paint buckets from their vehicle. Both men fled but were later caught.
In August 2021, DEA found Contreras-Sandoval and Davalos-Pulido at a second lab. Agents discovered a loaded firearm, $84,000 in cash, and a .50 caliber rifle there. Contreras-Sandoval was arrested outside the home with $12,000 on him.
On September 16, 2025, Contreras-Sandoval was convicted of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine, distribution of methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and unlawful possession of a firearm by an illegal alien. His sentencing hearing is pending.
