Justice Department to Announce Results in Newark Police Probe
The long-awaited results of a federal investigation into the Newark Police Department are set to be revealed on Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at a press conference in Newark, New Jersey.
According to sources, the investigation, which was launched in May 2011, looked into allegations of excessive force and discriminatory policing practices among other issues within the department.
The press conference, scheduled for 12:00 p.m. EDT, will feature Acting Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division Jocelyn Samuels, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman for the District of New Jersey, Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, and Newark Police Director Eugene Venable.
Media representatives are invited to attend the event, but must present government-issued photo ID and valid media credentials to gain access. The press conference will be held at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey, located at 970 Broad Street, Seventh Floor, in Newark.
