A 20-year-old’s reckless decision to drive drunk on the Natchez Trace Parkway in Mississippi on Mother’s Day 2024 sent a family’s world crashing down. In the predawn hours of May 11, he plowed head-on into a vehicle carrying a father and minor child, killing the dad and leaving the kid severely injured.
The first responder to the scene was Dylan Romine, a law enforcement ranger with the National Park Service. Romine sprang into action, ensuring lifesaving care for the minor victim and securing crucial evidence. His testimony was later praised as ‘among the most competent and compelling’ by a U.S. Magistrate Judge.
Thanks to Romine’s tireless work, the defendant received a 240-month sentence. But what made Romine’s dedication truly stand out was his commitment to supporting the victims’ family throughout the process. He went above and beyond, working to keep them informed and advocating for their rights.
U.S. Attorney Scott Leary recognized Romine’s outstanding work with the Carolyn Clayton Victims’ Service Award, praising the ranger’s selflessness and dedication to justice.
