Michael Kadar, Hate Crimes, Georgia 2019

MACON – The investigation into the Kadar bomb threat case has led to the recognition of a Middle District prosecutor for his work on the case. Peter Leary, the First Assistant United States Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia, received a SHIELD Award for his role in the ongoing investigation and prosecution of Michael Kadar, a U.S./Israeli man indicted for hate crimes and threats to Jewish institutions. The award was presented by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) at their annual SHIELD Awards ceremony in Washington, D.C.

According to Charles Peeler, the United States Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia, the office is ‘extremely proud’ of Peter Leary and the team investigating crimes that terrorize communities and disturb the freedoms that the nation holds dear. ‘I join our entire office serving the citizens of Middle Georgia in saluting Peter and our other dedicated law enforcement partners for this very worthy recognition,’ said Peeler.

The SHIELD awards ceremony was held at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, February 13, 2019. The SHIELD award is an expression of gratitude for law enforcement who courageously protect citizens and uphold the United States constitution. The award is created by the ADL in 2010 and is an acronym for the core values of the law enforcement profession: Service, Honor, Integrity, Excellence, Leadership, and Dedication.

Recipients are chosen by a committee of more than 20 agency heads in the Washington, D.C. region, representing more than 90,000 personnel. The SHIELD award is given to those who successfully respond to hate crimes, extremism, genocide, terrorism, and other malicious, illegal acts that undercut the nation’s freedom.

Michael Kadar, the U.S./Israeli man indicted for hate crimes and threats to Jewish institutions, is currently under investigation. Kadar is accused of making multiple bomb threats against Jewish institutions in the United States and Israel. The investigation into Kadar’s crimes is ongoing, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Georgia is working closely with law enforcement agencies to bring Kadar to justice.

Awards like the SHIELD Award are a testament to the hard work and dedication of law enforcement agencies across the nation. These awards not only recognize the bravery and selflessness of law enforcement officers but also serve as a reminder of the importance of upholding the law and protecting the rights of citizens.
