Kansas City man Aaron N. Whitworth, 31, was sentenced to 11 years and three months in federal prison without parole for distributing methamphetamine.
Whitworth led law enforcement officers on a 100-miles-per-hour chase before being arrested. The high-speed pursuit took place on April 22, 2015, after Whitworth fled from Deputy U.S. Marshals at the Maple Woods Care Center.
He reversed his vehicle and accelerated rapidly in an attempt to escape capture, colliding with a deputy’s vehicle and forcing another deputy’s vehicle out of his way.
Whitworth then drove through the grass of Oak Park High School to avoid another deputy, who was also attempting to stop him from escaping. He led law enforcement officers on an extended chase, during which he drove at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour and forced other motorists to maneuver in order to avoid a collision.
Stop sticks were eventually deployed, and his vehicle was disabled, bringing an end to the pursuit. Various items of drug paraphernalia consistent with the consumption of methamphetamine were found in Whitworth’s vehicle after his arrest.
Whitworth pleaded guilty to distributing methamphetamine on October 20, 2015. The investigation into Whitworth’s activities began in April 2011, when a confidential informant made multiple purchases of methamphetamine from him.
The informant’s buys led to a search warrant of Whitworth’s residence, which resulted in the seizure of 1.232 kilograms of methamphetamine and many items associated with the process of manufacturing methamphetamine.
