GRIMY TIMES – The grim reaper of the streets, Brandon Goodsell, 36, from Kearney, Nebraska, has been meted out a 21-year sentence by United States District Court Judge John M. Gerrard for his sinister dance with methamphetamine and firearms.
In an intense federal court proceeding, the judge announced that Goodsell will serve 210 months’ imprisonment followed by four years of supervised release. The only way out? There’s no parole in this federal system.
On August 2, 2020, the law caught up with Goodsell as he attempted to evade authorities on his motorcycle. After a high-speed chase across York and Hamilton counties, he met his match in a ditch, where his backpack was discovered containing more than 200 grams of methamphetamine, a loaded pistol, marijuana, hash oil, a scale, baggies, and drug paraphernalia. The Crime Lab’s forensic scientist confirmed the deadly presence of meth and pot.
This case didn’t just involve one law enforcement agency; it was a multi-force operation. The Nebraska State Patrol, York County Sheriff’s Office, and the Trident Task Force, which includes officers from several local departments and federal agencies like Homeland Security Investigations and the FBI, all joined forces to bring down Goodsell.
United States Attorney Steven Russell hailed the sentence as a clear victory against drug trafficking, saying, ‘This sentence sends a strong message that those who deal in drugs and use firearms to facilitate their crimes will be held accountable.’
