Keegan Allan Strelnik, Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm, Montana 2025
MISSOULA, Montana – A 42-year-old Anaconda man has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for illegally possessing a firearm, despite being a convicted felon.
Keegan Allan Strelnik pleaded guilty in January 2025 to being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm. U.S. District Judge Dana L. Christensen presided over the case.
The government alleged that on September 26, 2019, Strelnik was convicted of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine in federal court in Montana. As a result, Strelnik was prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.
However, on November 24, 2023, Strelnik went hunting in Granite County, Montana, and was captured on a game camera in possession of a hunting rifle. A witness later submitted a written statement that during the hunting expedition, Strelnik possessed the rifle, including using the rifle to fire at an elk.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian Lowney prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the ATF, U.S. Probation Office, and Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks. This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in local communities.
Strelnik was sentenced to 18 months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release. His prison sentence will likely serve as a harsh reminder of the consequences of breaking federal laws and possessing firearms as a convicted felon.
This case is a prime example of the importance of Project Safe Neighborhoods in reducing violent crime and gun violence in local communities. By working together with law enforcement and community organizations, we can make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.
